Time to kick Tuesday’s ass with 80’s metal and hard rock… Maiden, Priest, Metallica, DIO, Crue, Scorps, RATT, Megadeth, W.A.S.P., Dokken and more spin 24/7 on METAL SHOP.
Happy Birthday to SKID ROW founder and bassist Rachel Bolan (real name: James Richard Southworth). His stage name ‘Bolan’ is a tribute to one of his childhood idols, T. Rex frontman, Marc Bolan. Did you know Rachel Bolan sang back-up vocals on Mötley Crüe’s Dr. Feelgood album?
Late MOTÖRHEAD frontman, Lemmy Kilmister was a regular at The Rainbow Bar & Grill on the Sunset Strip in Hollywood, CA. A memorial was held there on the day of Lemmy’s funeral on January 9th and a mural was painted on the bar’s wall as a mark of respect. Now, a life-size bronze statue of Lemmy will be erected outside the venue.
From the WTF file, former QUEENSRŸCHE Singer Geoff Tate Is Working On Jazz Album.
Dave Mustaine has discussed the possibility of re-recording MEGADETH’s debut ‘Killing Is My Business… and Business Is Good!’ with the band’s current lineup, saying “If I did go back and record any old songs, it would probably be like a brand new interpretation of our greatest hits, because I think that focusing on any one record and showing an interpretation of all of our great songs by a new lineup would be more exciting. You never know. We might do that.”
Really excited for IRON MAIDEN’s return to the states in two weeks. The Book Of Souls World Tour starts Feb. 24th in Sunrise, FL. Maiden posted the photo below on the band’s Facebook page yesterday with the caption “We’re still packing!! Glad it’s a big plane…”
Have a rockin’ day!
In the mid-1980’s, The Cathouse in Hollywood, California, hosted some of the best rock bands to make it on MTV and get played on the radio.
Thanks to KNAC and the one and only Riki Rachtman, rock bands like Faster Pussycat, L.A. Guns, Skid Row, Bang Tango, and Guns N’ Roses, all played at the world famous Cathouse.
Let’s fast forward to August 15, 2015 in Irvine, California for some of those great rock bands of the 80’s who rocked two stages at Irvine Meadows (Verizon Wireless Amphitheater) for Cathouse Live. Bands like BulletBoys, Bang Tango, Trixter and Gilby Clarke played the side stage where temperatures reached up to one hundred degrees in a major heat wave for Southern California. Throughout the day, people were drinking water, water and more water. Unfortunately, a few people had too much alcohol and didn’t make it through the whole show.
The main stage kicked ass with Sebastian Bach (Skid Row), Tom Keifer (Cinderella), Dokken, L.A.Guns, Faster Pussycat, and Extreme. It was great to hear some of the songs I grew up listing to as a high school kid, like ‘Piece of Me’ (Skid Row), ‘Shelter Me’ (Cinderella), ‘Balled Of Jane’ (L.A. Guns), ‘House Of Pain’ (Faster Pussycat) and ‘More Than Words'(Extreme).
There was plenty of food, drinks, 80’s metal merchandise, spandex, tons of makeup, plus a few mullets. I even saw a few families with their kids showing them what it was like to attend an 80’s rock concert. I hope they make this a yearly event and move it to Hollywood or L.A. where it belongs. I want to thank Kristine Ashton-Magnuson for the credentials… You Rock! And Big Big Thanks to Riki Rachtman and everyone who helped put this show together… YOU ALL ROCK! LONG LIVE 80’s METAL!!!!! -Ralph
